What's inside your roof tank? A guide for villa owners

Most villas in the UAE don’t take water straight from the mains to the tap. It goes into a roof or ground tank first, then to the house. That tank is where most water problems start.
What builds up in a tank
- Sand and dust get in through vents and lids, especially in windy months.
- Rust comes from old pipes, fittings and metal parts.
- Sludge forms at the bottom as sediment settles over months.
- Heat in summer warms the water, which helps bacteria grow.
Where that water goes
The tank feeds every tap in the house: the shower, the bath, the kitchen sink and the washing machine. Whatever settles in the tank ends up on your skin, in your laundry and in your children’s bath.
How to protect your home
Clean the tank regularly. Cleaning removes the sludge that has built up, but it starts collecting again straight away.
Filter at the main line. A Triple Jumbo or an Automatic Multimedia Filter fitted after the tank catches sand and rust before the water reaches any tap.
Add UV for bacteria. A UV sterilizer after the filters uses light to stop bacteria and viruses, with no chemicals added.
Cool it in summer. A water chiller keeps tank water at a comfortable temperature.
Keep the filters fresh
A filter only works while its cartridges are clean. We change them every 4 months and show you the old ones, so you can see what they caught.
